DEATH NOTICE. SPENCER.—On June 18, 1904, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. Cornish, 48 Russell-street, Fremantle, Thomas Edwin Spencer, youngest son of the late Henry Spencer, Esq., Bunbury, aged 72 years.
OBITUARY. Death of an Old Colonist.—We regret to announce the death of Mr. Thos. Edwin Spencer, which took place at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Andrew Cornish, Russell-street, Fremantle, on Saturday night last. Mr. Spencer went to Fremantle a few days ago to enjoy a holiday, and Mrs. Spencer intended to proceed to Perth to-day to join her husband. On Friday last Mr. Spencer had a severe vomitting fit and threw up a quantity of blood, Due on oaruruay juurumg he appeared to be fairly well, and spoke of going to Perth on Monday to see his wife. He remained in apparently good health until nearly 11 o'clock on Saturday night, when Mr. Cornish retired to rest, leaving Mrs. Cornish to look after him. Mrs. Cornish chatted to her father for a few minutes, and he told her to lie down as he felt all right. She did so, but watched him carefully. Five minutes had scarcely elapsed before she saw him suddenly turn round, at the same time make a peculiar noise. She at once put her hand on his head, and called for her husband, Mr. Cornish immediately responded, and rang up for Dr. Hicks, who was in the house within ten minutes. A few minutes after the doctor arrived Mr. Spencer quietly breathed his last. Mr. T. E. Spencer was born in Bath, England, on Christmas Day seventy-one years ago. After travelling over a great part of the world he found his way to Ballarat in the early days, and subsequently, in the year 1862, came to Bunbury, West Australia, where he settled. Mr. Spencer was the landlord of the Wellington and Rose Hotels in Bunbury for over thirty years, and was greatly esteemed and respected. For many years he has retired from business, and taken no active part in public matters. He leaves a wife to mourn his loss, one daughter (Mrs. Cornish) his eldest child, and three sons John, Edwin, and Charles Henry. The body was brought to Bunbury by the train which arrived early this morning from Fremantle, and immediate preparations were made for the funeral. Messrs Spencer and Sons establishment remained closed all day, while Messrs Krachler and Co's. shop closed for half a day. The funeral took place at half-past three o'clock this afternoon, when the Rev. T. Secombe conducted the religious service. There was a large attendance, and the pall-bearers were Messrs R. Scott, senr., E. M. Clarke, Geo. Christie, senr., and W. B. Mitchell. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, the Council was represented by Councillor K. M. Eastman.
