Biography

Son of David Spencer and his second wife Sarah.

Samuel's first marriage was to Elizabeth Miller 13 Jan 1830 in Allegany County, Maryland.[1]

His second marriage was to Isabella Wood, 7 Oct 1847 in Harrison County, Ohio.[2]

A marriage of a Samuel Spencer and Isabel Majors was recorded 1 Jan 1835 in Belmont County, Ohio. I don't think this is the Isabel Wood who married Samuel C Spencer in 1847. The age of the Isabell Spencer in the 1850 Census is consistent with the assumed age in the 1847 marriage. She would have been born ca 1823, probably too young to have married in 1835.[3]

Samuel Spencer and wife Isabell were living in Smithfield, Jefferson County, Ohio in 1850. Samuel was age 42 b Maryland. Isabell was age 27 b Ohio. Son David was age 17 b Ohio. Daughter Sarah was age 16 b Ohio. Daughter Mary was age 14 b Ohio. Daughter Louisa was age 12 b Ohio. Daughter Margaret was age 9 b Ohio. Son Daniel was age 6 b Ohio. Son Samuel was age 2 b Ohio.[4]

In 1860 S C Spencer was living in Laclede Township, Fayette, Illinois. He was age 53 b Maryland. His wife Isabel was age 37 b Ohio. Daughter Margaret was age 18 b Ohio. Son Danl M Spencer was age 16 b Ohio. Son Saml C Spencer was age 11 b Ohio. Daughter Isabel J Spencer was age 9 b Ohio. Son Pinckney L Spencer was age 7 b Ohio. Daughter Rachel H Spencer was age 8 b Illinois. Daughter Martha J Spencer was age 3 b Illinois. Infant Joseph W Spencer was b Illinois.[5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
