William Thomas Spicely was an Indiana lawyer and soldier. Spicely was a Brevet Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War. Brigadier General Spicely commanded the 24th Indiana Infantry.

Brigadier General William Spicely served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: Jul 31, 1861 Mustered out: Jul 21, 1865 Side: USA Regiment(s): F & S, 24th Regiment, Indiana Infantry
On July 31, 1861, William T. Spicely enrolled as a Captain of Company G, 24th Regiment, Indiana Infantry. [5] In April 1862, Captain Spicely was promoted to Major. [6] On April 26, 1862, Major Spicely was promoted to Lieutenant Colone. On May 14, 1862, Lt. Colonel Spicely was promoted to Colonel in command of the 24th Indiana Infantry. [7]
For his meritorious service against the city of Mobile, Colonel Spicely was brevetted Brigadier General on March 26, 1865. [6]
Brigadier General William T. Spicely was discharged on July 21, 1865. [7]
Postbellum
Brigadier General William Thomas Spicely passed away in 1884. He was buried at Green Hill Cemetery, Orleans, Indiana. [1]
