Biography

Ward was born on 2 Feb 1751 Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts.[1][2][3] or in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts.[4] He is the son of Isaac Spooner and Ruth Gardner.[1][4][2][3] (Another record shows that a Ward Spooner was born to the same parents on 23 April 1753 at Dartmouth.[5] (This record appears to be in error, as it shows the birth of children of Isaac and Ruth as occurring on 24 Feb 1753 and 18 Dec 1854. Ward's birth could not have taken place in April 1753 if the other births are correct.)

Spooner says that Ward was a mariner.[6]

He married Abigail Pease. They had at least one child[6] (The DAR's Genealogical Record System shows only one child.):

  • Ward Spooner. b. 10 July 1777

He volunteered in the company that marched from New Bedford on 21 April 1775.[6]
