Served in Company F , 31st Maine Infantry and was not seen after 30 Sep 1864. Presumed killed in action in a battle of the Siege of Petersburg on that day.

Jesse was born in 1834, the son of Jesse and Susannah (Cross) Sprague. He was raised in Waldo County, Maine, where he would become a farmer. When 23 years old, Jesse married Lucy A. Ellinwood of Hillsborough, New Hampshire. They would settle in Troy, Maine, and have the following children:

Emma Defancy (Sprague) Hill (1863- )
In April of 1864 Jesse entered into a 3 year enlistment with the Union Army. Just 6 months after enlistment he was listed as missing in action during the Siege of Petersburg, Virginia. Jesse was never seen again and assumed dead.
