Biography
William was born about 1863. On the 1881 census Willie was a labourer and Sophia a Visiting Cook Domestic in a neighbouring house with Alfred who must have been Willie's older brother. Family legend said that Willie was a boot boy at the local hotel & ran away with the cook. They did marry in Cheltenham. On the 1891 census they are in Birmingham, he is 28 she 30 (??) They have two boys 5 & 3 and he is working as a Railway Policeman. 1901 Sophia is head of household at 41, Charles a railway porter 1911 Sophia, widow of 51 with the 2 boys still at home, both mining.
