Biography

Catherine Stanhope was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Katherine Stanhop was the daughter of John Lord Stanhop Baron of Harrington^[1] and his wife, Margaret MacWilliams.

She was married to Sir Robert Cholmondeley Baron of Cholmondeley Viscount Kelles in co Chester and Earl of Leinster,^[1] circa 1610. He was the son of Sir Hugh Cholmondeley and his wife, Mary Holford.

She died on 14 June, 1657,^[1] at Cholmondeley, Cheshire, England.

In 1950, while alterations were in progress at Malpas church, the vaults underlying the chantry chapels were opened and in the Cholmondeley vault was a lead shell containing the body of Katherine Cholmondeley with an attached plate inscribed:^[1]

"Here lieth interrd the body of Katherine daughter of John Lord Stanhop Baron of Harington and late wife of Sr. Robert Cholmondeley Baron of Cholmondeley Viscount Kelles in the County Chetr. and Earle of Leinster aged 59. She dyed June 14th 1657."
