Biography
Frederick Stanhope was born in about 1829.
- According to the 1871 census he was born in Heston, Middlesex, England (the same place as his wife), but there are no other records that confirm this.
Frederick Stanhope married Emily Steigenberger (aka Emily Steigenberger Hogarth?), presumably in about 1862 (unless he first married a miss Hogarth and Emily Steigenberger was his second wife, but there are no records supporting this).
They may have married at Jersey in the Channel Islands, as their eldest known daughter was born there:
- Ada Frederica Stanhope (c1862-1923)
They were living in Liverpool, Lancashire by 1864. Three sons were registered with their mother's maiden name recorded as Hogarth:
- Theodore William Stanhope (1864-1864)
- Albert Edward Stanhope (1865-1865)
- Lawrence Steigenberger Stanhope (1867-1938)
Their youngest four sons were registered with mother's maiden name recorded as Steigenberger:
- Ernest Frederick Stanhope (1869-1869)
- Herbert John Stanhope (1871-1871)
- Wilfred Hughes Stanhope (1872-1882)
- Frederick Westry Stanhope (1874-1874)
Altogether they had eight children, though only two lived to adulthood.
In 1871 Frederick Stanhope (age 42, Commercial Clerk) lived in Everton, Liverpool, Lancashire with his wife Emily (32 [~36]) and three children: Ada F (10, Scholar), Laurence S (3), and Herbert J (0).[1]
Frederick Stanhope passed away in 1874, aged 45 years. His death was registered in West Derby, Lancashire in the first quarter of the year.[2]
