Biography

Maria Jane Staniforth was born in 1871 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England and baptised in Barwell, Leicestershire on 13th April 1873. She was the daughter of Farmer Staniforth (a framework knitter) and his wife, Jane Simpson. ^[1]

In 1881, Maria Staniforth (10) was living with her parents, Farmer Staniforth (45) and Jane (45, born in Hallaton, Leicestershire) in Shaw Lane, Markfield, Leicestershire. She had a brother, George William (15, born in Smethwick, Staffordshire) and a sister, Mary E (5, born in Barwell, Leicestershire). ^[4]

In 1891, Maria Jane (20) was living with her parents, Farmer Stainforth and Jane (both 55), and younger sister, Mary Emma (15) in Checketts Road, Belgrave, Leicester. ^[5]

Maria Jane Staniforth and Alfred Platts were married in 1901. ^[6]

In 1901, Mary Jane (29) and her husband, Charles A Platts (36) were living at 9 Payne Street, Leicester and had Charles's mother, Millicent Platts (78) living with them. ^[7]

In 1911, Maria Jane (40, a worsted reeler) and Charles Alfred Platts (47, a general labourer) had been married 9 years and had no children. They were living at 9 Payne Street, Belgrave, Leicester. ^[8]

Maria J Platts (80) died in 1951 in Leicester. ^[9]
