Richard Stanley was born in Shropshire, England.

Richard was born in 1829. He was the son of William Stanley and his wife Rebecca. Richard was a miner all his life and it was also the death of him in 1887.

He married Martha Lane on 24 May 1847 in Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worcester, England.^[1]

Together they had a large family .In the 1861 census Richard (age 32) was in Malinslee, Dawley, Shropshire, England. They have a family of seven children ^[2]

Eight children are at home a decade later and the family are in Dark Lane, Dawley. ^[3]

At some point in the following ten years they move to Cannock - no doubt for work. Five children are at home ^[4]

Richard was involved in a mining accident on 21 September and died on the 28th, in 1887 in Hendesford, Stafford, England. Richard was 59 The cause described as an explosion of gasses from a gob fire. Three were Killed. ^[5][6]
