He was born on 21 April 1918 and was the son of Hon. Sibyl Louise Beatrix (Cadogan) and Rt. Hon. Sir Edward Montagu Cavendish Stanley, Lord Stanley.

He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England and Magdalen, Oxford.

He had a military career which included ...
