Those of the Staples name who migrated in this direction, were the descendants of James Staples 3, oldest son of James 2 and Mary (Tetherly.)

James 3, married Dorcas Libbey, 1728. He is said to have had eight sons, of whom at least five,—James 4, born 1730, Elisha 4, born 1737, Benjamin 4, born 1739, John 4, Andrew 4,—may be traced to the twin towns by the Saco river.

Another son, Noah 4, settled in Berwick. He was born in 1732, and married Hannah Edgerly, 1755.

Noah was born in 1732. He passed away in 1814. [page 41]
