Oswald Oliver Steel was born 10 September 1890 at Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Thomas Gleghorn Steel and Hannah Dronsfield. ^[1]

Marriage
Irene Johnston married Oswald Oliver Steel in 1915 at Hamilton, New South Wales, Australia. ^[2]

Military Service
Oswald Oliver Steel enlisted on 28 November 1915 and served with the Australian Imperial Force, 35th Infantry Battalion, C Company, during World War I. His Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A24 Benalla on 1 May 1916. Oswald served on the Western Front in France. He was wounded in action on 09 June 1917 and evacuated to England. ^{[3] [4]}

Death
Sadly Oswald Oliver Steel died on 10 August 1917 in 1st General Hospital, London, as a result of wounds he received on 9 June 1917 while serving in France during World War I.

Burial
Sergeant Oswald Oliver Steel was buried on 14 August 1917 in Grave No. 179.641, Australain Military Burial Ground, (Plot : XI. D. 13.) Brookwood Military Cemetery, Brookwood, Surrey, England. ^[5]
