Oswald Oliver Steel enlisted on 28 November 1915 and served with the Australian Imperial Force, 35th Infantry Battalion, C Company, during World War I. His Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A24 Benalla on 1 May 1916. Oswald served on the Western Front in France. He was wounded in action on 09 June 1917 and evacuated to England. [3][4]
