Biography

George Carlton Steele, 73, of Leeper, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2006, at his home. Born Nov.15, 1933, in Brookville, he was the son of the late Carlton F. and Laura E. Yeaney Steele. Mr. Steele served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a butcher working at numerous grocery stores in the area. Mr. Steele was a member of the American Legion in Clarion, the Masons and the NRA, and was a past member and chief of the Farmington Township Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and going to auctions.

Surviving are his lifelong companion, Peg Bauer of Crown; three daughters, Vickie Doutt and husband, James, of Clarion, Lorie Jean Neeper and companion, Dave Austen, of Newfield, N.Y., and Rae Singer and husband, Tim, of Woodland; and a grandchild, Ryan Voland. He also is survived by a brother, Harry Lee Steele and wife, Pattie, of Brookville.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Steele was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Ransel; and a brother, Gordon Steele. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Borland Funeral Home Inc., in Leeper with the Rev. Daniel Richter, pastor of the Greenwood United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Farmington Township Volunteer Fire Department.
