In April or May, 1863 he married Anna Maria Neumann.
They had about 4 children.

In 1869 Leonard and his wife and son Bernard came to the US aboard the ship Westphalia, leaving Hamburg and arriving in New York on March 25th.

It is unknown if Margaret and Josef had passed away before making the trip with the family, but they did not travel with them.
By 1870 they were living in Chicago, Illinois. Leonard was a day laborer.

In 1880 he was a boot and shoe maker in the Saint Mark area of Sedgwick County, Kansas.

He passed away in 1923 [8]and was buried at the Saint Marks Cemetery in Saint Marks, Sedgwick County, Kansas.[9]
