He was baptised on 4 January 1864 at St Matthew's church, Manchester. ^[3]

In 1871 he was with his parents and siblings in Manchester. His father was boatman. ^[4]

He married Mary Maddocks in 1888. Their marriage was registered in Chorlton, Lancashire. ^[5]

In 1891 he was his wife and 2 children at the home of his mother- and father-in-law in Chorlton on Medlock, Lancashire. ^[2]

In 1901 he was living in South Manchester with his wife and 2 children. He was a police constable. ^[6]
