Emmanuel was born in the third quarter of 1878 in Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales.[1]

In the 1891 census Emmanuel (age 12), Scholar, was living with his father and family in Scyborfach Street, Swansea Town and Franchise, Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales.[3]
Emmanuel married Emily James in the third quarter of 1899 in Neath, Glamorganshire, Wales. [4]
In the 1901 census Emmanuel (age 22), Timberman labourer, was the married head of household at 12, Under High Street, Abergwynp, Glyncorrwg, Neath, Glamorganshire, Wales.[5]
