Biography

Joseph Smith Stevens was born on March 12, 1845 in Yellrome, Hancock, Illinois, United States. He is the son of Lymon Stevens and Martha Durfee.

When he was four years old, his family immigrated to the Utah Territory with the Silas Richards Company in 1849.[1]

In 1850, he lived in Salt Lake County, Utah Territory with his family.

He married Abigail Morana King on August 12, 1865 in Circleville, Piute County, Utah. They had ten children.

  1. Martha Caroline Stevens was born on April 30, 1866 in Circleville.
  2. Abigail Matilda Stevens was born on March 25, 1868 in Ephraim, Sanpete County, Utah.
  3. Joseph Smith Stevens Jr was born on May 11, 1870 in Ephraim.
  4. George William Stevens was born on January 19, 1873 in Ephraim.
  5. Mary Jane Stevens was born on March 25, 1875 in Ephraim.
  6. Charles Franklin Stevens was born on June 2, 1877 in Mayfield, Sanpete County, Utah.
  7. John Eleazer Stevens was born on January 7, 1880 in Mayfield.
  8. James Lyman Stevens was born on September 28, 1883 in Ferron, Emery County, Utah.
  9. Huldah Lovina Stevens was born on April 20, 1885 in Ferron.
  10. Lilly Jeanette Stevens was born on March 21, 1890 in Ferron.

Joseph fought in the Blackhawk War.[2][3][4]

His wife died on July 24, 1913.[5][6]

Joseph passed away at an age of seventy-four on November 8, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. He is buried in the Ferron City Cemetery.[7][8][9][10][11]
