PRESQUE ISLE - Joan Stevens Allen passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2017, on a beautiful, sunny spring day. She was born June 18, 1924, in Presque Isle, where she lived her entire life. She attended local schools, and was a librarian for most of her life - a job that suited her well with her soft-spokeness, and sincere love for books and reading. Above all prevailed her love for family and many dear friends. The love of Joan's life was Vaughn T. Allen. The couple spent more than 60 years together until he passed away in 2005. She is survived by three sons, Bill and his wife, Darris, Joe, and Vaughn. Joan cherished all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Kate; Lindsay and her children, Nathaniel, Noah, Claire and Caleb; and Derrick and wife, Amy, and their children, Maggie Jean and Finnegan. Joan is also survived by her "adopted" sister, Ceilia Phillips (Sis) and her daughter, Cathy; as well as Cathy Allen and David Allen. There will be no funeral services at Joan's request to not "fuss about me." Our love for Mom will overcome our sadness. In lieu of flowers, Mom's wish was to have donations sent to the Presque Isle Historical Society or the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library.
