James Stewart was born on 27 October 1783 in York, Pennsylvania, United States. He was the son of James Stewart (1755–1830) and his wife Jean Reid/Reed) (1759–1830).

He died on 4 October 1857 in Scott Township, Adams County, Ohio, United States and was buried in the Old Concord Cemetery, Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio, United States.

Marriage

James Stewart was married to his 1st wife Susan Peden (1782–1811) on 27 March 1805 in Pennsylvania, United States.

He was widowed in 1811.

He was then married to his 2nd wife Phoebe Cox (1788–1848) in 1818 in Highland City, Highland, Ohio, United States.

He was widowed again in 1848.

In 1849 he was married to his 3rd wife Jane Moore ((1805 – ?) in Adams, Ohio, United States.
