Biography

Saron Stillwell was a Pennsylvanian.

"Saron B. Stillwell, son of John Stillwell, 534, was born at Easton, Pa., Apr. 21, 1840; married Oct. 10, 1861, Catharine J., daughter of John and Julia Edinger Troch, of Stroudsburg, Pa. They removed to Scranton, Pa., in 1862, where he died May 29, 1903, and was buried in Stroudsburg, and his widow died Aug. 11,1912.

Mr. Stillwell was unceasing in his efforts to gather memoranda concerning his branch of the family.

The pursuit of this subject has brought me in contact with many estimable persons, and been the ground work of strong friendships, and among them none that I valued more than that of Mr. S. B. Stillwell. He was a powerful, sturdy man, suave, yet resolute. He possessed much political power, yet never yielded it for his own interest, his only public position being State Commissioner of Fisheries in Pennsylvania. His characteristics peculiarly fitted him to fill the position of Claim Agent for the Lackawanna Railroad, the duties of which he discharged most satisfactorily for many years. He was all that was ideal as a friend and lovable in his domestic relations."^[1]
