Biography

Rebecca Stoddard was born January 1685 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay Colony. She was the daughter of Solomon Stoddard and Esther Warham.

She married Joseph Hawley on November 16, 1722 in Northampton.[1][2] They had at least two children, both born in Northampton.

  1. Joseph Hawley was born on October 8, 1723.[3][4]
  2. Elisha Hawley was born on July 18, 1726.[5][6]

Rebecca passed away at an age of eighty on January 2, 1766 in Northampton. She is buried in the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton.

The inscription on her tombstone reads:

Here lies Mrs Rebeka Hawley
who died Jany 2d 1766 in ye
81st year of Her age
She was ye widow Mr Joseph
Hawley decsd at the right hand
of whom she is intered
And dautr oF Revd
Mr. Soll Stoddard.
Earth's highest station ends in here he lies,
And dust to dust concludes her noblest song.
