Dorothy Shartzer, 73, of Illiopolis died at 9:25 p.m. Monday at Memorial Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1920, in Gadsden, Alabama, the daughter of Elijah W and Mattie Lee Wright Stokes. She married Arthur Shartzer in 1943. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1987, two sons, three brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Shartzer worked for DeKalb Seed Co. and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Jerred (Cora) Casteel of Decatur, Mrs. Gloria Wicker of Illiopolis, Mrs. Robert (Susan) Summer of Mount Pulaski and Margaret Norris of Mount Auburn; two sons, Randy Shartzer of Argenta and Rick Shartzer of Illiopolis; four brothers, Charles William Stokes, Billie Gene Stokes and James Budd Stokes, all of Attalla, Ala., and Jake Darrell Stokes of Albertville, Ala.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services at Dawson and Wikoff Funeral Home in Illiopolis. Burial in Riverside Cemetery.
