Stratton may be Cornish-British “hill full of fresh springs” or Old English “road enclosure/settlement”. There are several places throughout England with that name so chances are that the Stratton surname has several origins.
1) Per New Jersey, County Marriages, 1682-1956, On "Saturday, July 11, 1807, were lawfully joined together in Holy matrimony Josiah Stratton and Mary Trout both of Weymouth and county of Glucester, state of New Jersey by me, one of the deacons of the Methodist Episcopal Church, John Bailey."
