Zimri Streeter was born on 7 February 1801 at Granville, Washington, New York, United States of America.[1]
Zimri married Lucinda Dean on 25 March 1824 at his birthplace.[1] Lucinda Streeter was born on 24 September 1801 at Lancaster, New Hampshire.[1]
Zimri and Lucinda had twelve children:[1]
He was twice elected to represent Black Hawk County in the House of Representatives of Iowa State Legislature, in 1857 and 1859.[1] It was while serving in the Legislature that he was given the nickname of "Old Black Hawk".[1]
Zimri died on 7 January 1880 at the home of his son-in-law, Thomas Dobson, aged 78, and was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Washington Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa.[1]
Zimri's wife, Lucinda Streeter, died in 1888 and was also buried in Hillside Cemetery.[1]
He was one of the first settlers in Black Hawk County, Iowa.
There is a historical marker dedicated to him in Hillside Cemetery.[2]
