WEDDING REPORT. WEEPING BRIDE. Hour Late at Church. WEDDING OF SHIRLEY STRICKLAND. Perth, June 1.— Arriving an hour late for her wedding, the Olympic star, Miss Shirley Strickland, broke down weeping at the church to-night and was assisted back to her car. The wedding guests were asked by the rector, the Rev. D. Abbott, to leave the church and adjourn to the reception in the Guildford Town Hall. About an hour later the wedding ceremony was performed privately, with the church doors locked. The bridegroom, Mr. Laurence de la Hunty, arrived at the church, St. Matthew's Church, Guildford, at 4.30 p.m. The bridesmaids, the Misses Patricia and Margaret de la Hunty, sisters of the groom, and Miss Sally Huelin, the flower girl, arrived at 5 p.m. and waited on the church steps for the bride. Arriving in the church precincts some time later, the bride broke down in the car and Mr. Abbott was summoned to her. Later she was assisted from the car by her father, Mr. D. Strickland, and the bridesmaids, but, on reaching the church door, Miss Strickland again broke down and returned to the car. Mr. Abbott then made an announcement to the guests, who numbered about 60 and had been waiting in the church. He said that Miss Strickland was "not well and had collapsed in the car. She is not in a fit state to stand a long ceremony in front of a large gathering," he said. He then asked the guests to adjourn to the reception. When they had left the church and after Miss Strickland had had time to settle down, the ceremony was conducted quickly and privately. Miss Strickland wore a classically-cut gown of figured white slipper satin, which was made with a small v-shaped neckline and long sleeves. She wore a long veil of raw-cut tulle. Her bridesmaids were dressed in figured organdie, one in pale pink and the other in blue. The frocks were fashioned with high necklines and tiny Peter Pan collars, with bodices buttoned up the front. Draped hip peplums set off the gathered skirts. The flower girl. Miss Sally Huelin, is the daughter of a Perth solicitor, Mr. J. R. Huelin. She wore a frock, similar to that of the bridesmaids, of white organdie. Mrs. Strickland wore a slim fitting cocktail frock of plum coloured crepe, with matching felt hat. Mrs. de la Hunty chose a beige crepe cocktail suit, which had a self embroidered yoke and full skirt. With this she wore a fine straw hat of oyster green. The bridegroom is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. de la Hunty. The best man was Mr. J. Lord, and the groomsman was Mr. R. Strickland. Both the bride and groom graduated in science (Miss Strickland with honours) at the University of Western Australia. Mr. de la Hunty is now working as a geologist with the State Government.
