Biography

Francis Stringer was a clerk at East India House, the London headquarters of the East India Company. He was born in about 1785.[1]

He married Elizabeth Mary Cuthbertson on 2 November 1813 at St George Hanover Square, Westminster, Middlesex.[2]

He joined the East India Company in about 1820 and rose to the position of assistant elder of the buying and warehousing office on a annual salary of £150. In 1833-34, the East India Company discontinued its commercial operations and discharged most of its employees, including Francis Stringer. In recognition of his 14¼ years' service, he was granted an annual pension of £100. He was then aged 49.[1]

He probably died in May 1844, aged 59, in Acton, Middlesex.[3]
