Isaac was born in 1801. Isaac Struble ... He passed away in 1891. [1]
Please note there is a discrepancy over date of death. Existing record on Wikitree shows Isaac Struble died on 29 March 1891. Find A Grave records date of death as 30 March 1891. Detailed newspaper obituary shows both date of death and funeral as having taken place on 30 March but this seems unlikely. Date of 29 March left unchanged as this seems the most likely date. Isaac Struble was the son of John Struble of Newton, N.J. near which place he was born on April 10 1801. When he died therefore March 30 1981 he lacked only eleven days of being ninety years of age. He was married twice. At the age of about twenty-five he married Miss Sarah Atkinson at his New Jersey home and four children were the result of this union, three of them who are still living - Joseph Struble, Findlay, Ohio, John T Struble, Iowa City and Mrs Catherine Sears, Bloomfield, Ohio. His wife died in 1932 or about seven years after her marriage.
His second wife was Miss Emma Teasdale of Sussex County, New Jersey and the children by this second marriage were eight in number, seven of whom are still living - Thomas T and William E, Portland, Oregon. James H and Isaac S, Le Mars, Iowa. George R, Toledo, Iowa. Mrs Hannah M Woodward, Eureka, Kansas and Mrs Emma L Graham, Cedar Rapids.
Some six years after the second marriage Mr Stuble removed in 1839 from the old home in Newton, N.J. and settled in Fredricksburg, Virginia. Here the family resided until the fall of 1846 and then turned westward to take up their home in Chesterville, Ohio. From this point they lifted their eyes again to the setting sun and in 1857 made Iowa City their residence where several of the children were able to avail themselves of its University advantages.
Following the war in 1866 the deceased, the deceased finally removed to his farm near Toledo and there among his friends and neighbours he spent nearly a quarter of a century, giving to the town and community the mature years of his active life.
In 1887 his wife died and he lost his interest in the affairs of the present life. For over two years he resided with his youngest daughter, Mrs W H Graham of Cedar Rapids where death closed his long and honorable career. His childhood was spent in the atmosphere of a Christian home and at an early age he made a public profession of his faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church of his native place and with this body of Christians he has continued in fellowship for over seventy years.
The funeral services were conducted March 30 from the Presbyterian church in Toledo in which he had been a Ruling Elder for over a quarter of a century. The sermon was preached by Rev Dr J H Fowler, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church of Cedar Rapids as he had served as a substitute for his pastor during his late illness at the home of his daughter Mrs W H Graham in that city. Dr J I Smith, pastor of the Presbyterian church and Rev G M D Slocum of the Congregational church assisted in the services. The seating capacity of the church was more than filled with old friends of the deceased and his family. Truly 'the memory of the just is blessed.'
