Suit and Mary Ann Redmond Suit. He grew up in the Eva area. On June 11, 1882 he married a neighbor girl....They settled on the top of Wilhite Mountain near his family, where they raised their large family. William was a country doctor. He used a horse and buggy to visit his patients. Later, before 1920, he bought a model T Ford and hired Coleman Childers to drive it for him. His patients lived in a large area of Morgan County and cullman County. He delivered all the babies and dispensed medicine, lots of bootleg whiskey, to the flu and colds victims. One rememdy I remember well was whiskey over rock candy for coughs. He delivered all his children, grandchildren, and four of his great grandchildren, including me who is the oldest great child. He got paid with meal, hams, sugar, and about anything they had around the house. Doctor Suit died February 11, 1944 of a heart attack. He was 83 years old. Here is a paragraph of his obituary. "Dr. Suit had practiced medicine in Morgan County for over forty-eight years. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and was one of the most widely beloved residents of Morgan County." Suit, son of Johnston and Nancy Suit, was born August 30, 1834 in Cades Cove in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. His family was in Polk County, Tennessee in 1850. His father and brother Ralph were working as Forge hammermen and John W. was a farmer. John W. and Mary Redmond, daughter of Moses and Sarah Redmond, were married August 26, 1856 in Duck Town, Polk County, Tennessee by William Man. They moved to Morgan County, Alabama between 1857 and 1860. Family legend said he was a turncoat or Yankee sympathizer. He was a little man with a long white beard in his older years. He chewed tobacco, but never had a stain on his beard. he taught his granddaughters to cheew tobacco. They would be outside playing in their "playhouse" when he would come for a visit. Before going into the house, he would give them tobacco, warning them not to tell their parents. He died August 9, 1909 at home near Lacon in Morgan County. His obituary in the New Decatur Advertiser on 28 August 1909 said He was a kind husband, an affectionate father and a devoted Christian. Rev. J. M. Bell conducted the funeral. Mary Redmond Suit was born Aprl 7, 1836 in Tennessee and die April 1, 1912 in Morgan County, Alabama. She died from pneumonia. John and Mary are buried in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, in Morgan County, Alabama." "Johnson S. (Johnsy) Suit, born January 6, 1856 in North Carolina. He died July 9, 1929 in Morgan County, Alabama. His first wife was Mary E. Powell. They had five children. His second wife was Tammer Elizabeth Dutton. They were married February 14, 1900.
