Mallie I. Derrick, 83 died Tuesday January 2, 2007 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Services will be held in the Lakewood Chapel at 2 PM Friday, January 5, 2007. Visitation is from 5-9 PM Thursday and after 1 PM Friday. Burial is in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mallie was born May 9,1923 in Smith County to the late J. J. Sullivan and Victoria Blackwell Sullivan.
Mrs. Derrick was a longtime Jackson resident before moving to Byram three years ago. She was a longtime active member of Forest Hills Baptist Church for many years. Mallie loved her Sunday school class and was in charge of the class outreach ministry. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Until her retirement, Mrs. Derrick was employed by Desoto Industries. She loved to garden and was an excellent cook. She also enjoyed shopping but most of all, her dedication was to her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Preceding Mrs. Derrick in death are her parents, her husband of more than 40 years James Derrick, who preceded her in 1998, brother Herman Sullivan, sister Lessie S. Craft, and two grandchildren, Tim Teasley and Christopher Colyer.
Survivors include her son Ray Hughes, Jr of Byram, three daughters Jean Puckett and her husband Bruce of Terry, Joan Hemby of Raymond, Vickie Donald and her husband Max of Brandon, brother, Allen Sullivan of Crystal Springs, twelve grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
Pallbearers are Keith Colyer, Jay Teasley, Justin Teasley, Derrick Hughes, Christopher Hughes and BJ Donald. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Teasley, Mark Teasley, Kelly Colyer, Cory Hemby, Scott Kemp and Rodney Williams.[2]
