Minnie was born about 1900. She passed away about 1995.

My grandmother was the kindest, most loyal person I ever knew. She was a christian, although she never went to church. She stayed home to cook lunch for everyone else. She worked from dawn to dark and never got finished. She picked cotton when my mother was small until almost dinner time. She then went in cooked a full meal from scratch and left the mess to pick cotton until supper time. Then she had to clean her mess and start again. She took care of her mother in law, who was a very mean old woman. She cared for her children and loved her family. She begged my grandfather for nice things for years and never got them. They lived in the home of his mother and things were done his way. They did not have an indoor bathroom ever. He finally had a small bathroom built on the back porch. They used fire places to heat the house. She never complained about things that I heard. She never used bad language or said anything bad about other people. She was one of those people that if she did not have anything nice to say she said nothing. She made sure that company was always treated with the upmost respect and that everyone had plenty to eat and a good time. I loved her very much. She had a fifth grade education, but was smart and witty. She remembered every thing she was taught including Latin. She knew everyone and how they were kin to everyone else. She had a photographic memory when it came to people. She knew exactly how they were kin and who their ancestors were. She would always get on to me about digging. She claimed I would get blown up, which I never bothered to listen to. She had such neat pictures of people and homemade quilts that were beautiful. I always slept with her when I was there. If it was cold she would warm a brick for my feet. Her sheets were always ironed and her beds smelled good and were so comfortable. She told me stories. Her favorite to tell was about Pandora's box and she told it often. I guess to try to teach me to stay out of her powder, pictures and her quilts. She was in a nursing home until she got stomach cancer. My mother told me there was no need to go there the last time I went, she wouldn't know me. My mother was wrong. They were taking her away when I held her hand and she tried to look at me. I asked her if she knew who I was and she said "Jackie". My mom was wrong and I was always so glad I was there right before she died so that she knew someone loved her and cared for her.
