Biography

Research Notes

Mary is supposed to be related to Hammans Descendant Hammans Descendant is also related to Lance Martin who is related to many Swaffords, but not this line.

Mary Capps on the 1900 census is listed as having 13 children, 11 still living.

This profile shows many more children than that. Hence, I believe this may be a combination of a couple of profiles.

Mary Emma Swafford born 8/17/I832 in Tennessee, probably in Bledsoe County. A search was made of all 1840 Tennessee county census records for Swafford families with a 5-10 year old female. Twelve different families listed one or more for a total of 15 females 5-10 years old. Thirteen of the fifteen were still single and listed at home with their parents in the 1850 census. One family with a 5-10 year old moved away and their whereabouts are unknown. Alexander (Jr.) and Lucinda was the only famiky having a 5-10 year old female in 1840 but not with them in 1850. Through this process of elimination, it is believed that Mary Emma is the daughter and oldest child of Alexander (Jr.) and Lucinda Swafford. Mary Emma has also been referred to as Mary Emily Swafford.
