James was born about 1837 in Ireland.[1] He was the son of James Swan and Sarah McGuffie. [2]
He married Ann McKenzie on the 20 September 1861 at Regent Terrace, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, [3]He passed away in 1870.
James and Ann had a son James who was born on the 17 May 1866 at Sunnybank, West Bridgend, Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. [4]
Sadly on the 22 May 1870 James dies from wounds received when some iron falls on him at the Leven Shipyard where he works. At the time he and his family were living at Clyde Street, Dumbarton.
