Biography
May was born in 1910. She was the oldest living child of Laura and Herbert Sweet. She was born in Southy, Saskatchewan, but spent most of her childhood in Cloverdale, a little hamlet east of Prince Albert. She married William Omer Muirhead in 1932 in Calgary, Alberta. They moved to Proctor the following year, and spent about 7 years there. They had two children Lorne and Iris. Then they lived in Trail, as Omer was a guard at the Smelter during the Second World War. They moved to Nelson in 1945 and resided there until 1974, when they moved to Grand Forks to be near their daughter, Iris and children. She passed away in 2006 at the age of 96. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery there.

Viola May was my Mother. She lived to be 96, and told and wrote a lot of stories about her life and the life of her family. She did a lot of research by going to Courthouses, Cemeteries and talking to relations. She was a true Canadian, would have made a wonderful Senator as she was so knowledgeable. She took me on a History trip to London, Ontario when I was 13, and later took her 4 grandchildren across Canada by train, so they could learn more about Canada first hand. I am so grateful now for all the things she taught me about our family. Iris E. Hooge (Muirhead)
