Tryphosa Sweet was born March 8, 1792 in Ardoise, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was a daughter of Benoni Sweet and Lydia Dimmock. Tryphosa Sweet married Oliver Dodge about 1815. They had six children:
- Albro Dodge (b. 1815)
- Susanna Dodge (b.1818)
- Hannah Dodge (b. 1820)
- William Dodge (b. 1824)
- Samuel Dodge (b. 1826)
- Gardiner Dodge (b. 1829)
