Research Notes

In the 1870 US Federal Census there is a child, Albert Delarm, born about 1857 apparently in Canada. He is probably a child of John Delarm's by an earlier marriage and thus a step-son of Mary's. All the children in the 1870 census are shown under the surname Delarm. Albert Delarm appears as well in the 1875 New York State Census, where Mary's children are surnamed Green but Albert is surnamed Delarm and is named as "son" whereas the other children are noted as step-children of John Delarm's.

Looking at Mary's children for clues:

Amanda A. Grant appears to have been named Amanda (Manda) M. (Melvina) Grant and to have married David Avery. Amanda's birth is noted as March 1840, marriage in 1856, father (i.e. James Grant) Canadian born, mother as born in New York.[3] Her Find a Grave memorial links her to her mother Mary Delarm and gives her name as Melvina Amanda Grant Avery.[4]

Roena (Roana, Roanna) Adeline or Adelaide Green, again linked to Mary via Find a Grave, has a birth date of August 1845, married 1865 to Deforest Gibbs, parents' birthplaces both NY.[5] Her Find a Grave Memorial has a birth date of June 1843.[6]

George W. Green, linked via the 1850 census. He appears to have been killed during the Civil War at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia on 14 May 1864. His age at enlistment in 1861 was 18 years old, and he enlisted from Bangor, NY, near where the family was known to be living at the time.[7] A note on the line recording his death says: "Borne [sic] as George W. Green." A note added in a different hand to his record shows his full name was George W. Green. Drewry's Bluff is outside Richmond, Virginia.

Alive Viola Green, linked via 1860 census. She appears never to have married. She is living in the household of her brother-in-law and sister Polly Lapree in the 1900 census, birth date Aug 1855.

Ira Green, linked via the 1860 census. The name is unfortunately common, but he is probably Ira H. Green in the 1900 census, birth date May 1858, married Mary J. ___ in 1884, father born Vermont, mother born NY.[8]

Sidney Green, linked via the 1860, 1870 and 1875 censuses. In the 1900 census his birth date is given as Aug 1858, parents both born NY. He was married to Mathilda Jock.[9] Her maiden name taken from a son's marriage record.

Polly Jane Green, linked to Mary via Find a Grave, has birth date of 1 Apr 1861 (Apr 1861 in census), married William Lapree in 1880, father from Vermont, mother from Canada.[10] She died in 1952.[11]
