Biography

Hannaugh Swindle (married name Jordan) was born around 1822, the daughter of Alicia (Wiggins) Swindle and John Swindle. [1]

She was married to John Jordan. [2]

John , Hannah and their existing six children emigrated from Scotland to Melbourne, Australia on the "Sir William Molesworth", arriving on the 14th of March, 1853.[3]

Their children after arrival were:[citation needed]

Hannaugh died on 28 Jul 1908 in Burwood, Victoria, Australia, aged 84 years.[4]

Discrepancy between Father's first name at Baptism and at Death. Baptism Holy Trinity, Lisnaskea, Baptism records also accessed by Manager at PRONI Feb 2019.

The Australian death index, available on Ancestry, names the Hannah Jordan who died 28th July 1908 as the daughter of Frank Swindell (NOT John) and Alice Swindell formerly Wiggin.

Yes. This had me confused for a number of years. However, through my research of Irish records at PRONI, and other records available on IGP, it appears that Hannah's parents were John Swindle and his wife Alicia (Wiggins) of Attybaron, just outside Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh. See my comments from 2019 under John Swindle (Swindle-560). Happy to discuss further.

I agree that John Swindle and Alice (surname unknown) had a a number of children baptised at Holy Trinity (CoI), Lisnaskea, Fermanagh, including Hannagh, born Attybarn, baptised on the 23rd of June 1822. However records for the Swindles in Ireland are far from complete and I think it is rash to assume that this is the only Hannah Swindle born about this period The Australian record is very specific about naming her father Frank and I think we must assume that this is a different Hannah Swindell unless a reason for the change of father's name beomes apparent. You name John's wife as Alicia, rather than Alice, and Wiggins rather than Wiggin. Have you found a marriage record?

I accept that I have found no further information about Hannagh Swindle baptised 1822 and no baptism for Hannah, daughter of Frank Swindell and Alice Wiggin. However 'Francis' was a popular christian name for the Swindle families of Fermanagh in this period:- Francis, son of John Swindle & Jane Jordan, born c. 1771 Francis, son of the above Francis J. Swindle and Rebecca Johnson, born at Cushwash4 baptised on the 25th of February 1827 in Aghalurcher Parish, Fermanagh Francis, son of John and Alice Swindle, born at Killepaddy, born in Attybarn, baptised on the 4th of October 1816 at Holy Trinity in Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh, Ireland.
