Biography

Elizabeth Hellyar Symons was born in 1878 in Princetown, Devon, England to John Jewell Symons and Eleanor Ann "Ellen" (Mitchell) Symons. Her birth was registered in Tavistock, Devon in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Mitchell.^[1][2]

Elizabeth's father may have worked away from home, as he wasn't recorded with the family on either the 1881 or 1891 censuses. Elizabeth's mother was still recorded as married on both.

In 1881 Elizabeth Symons (age 3, Scholar) lived in Devonport Stoke Damerel, Devon with her mother Ellen (30, Housekeeper), sister Eleanor F (7, Scholar), and brother Henry M (5, Scholar).^[3]

In 1891 Elizabeth Symons (age 13, Scholar) lived at St Andrews Street in Plymouth, Devon with her mother Ellen (41, Seamstress) and four siblings: Ellen (18, Factory Girl), Henry (15, Errand Boy), Thomas (10, Scholar), and John (1).^[4]

Elizabeth Heller Symons married Thomas Edwin Bickell in 1900. The marriage was registered in Plymouth in the last quarter of the year.^[5]

• Thomas Edwin Bickell was the son of Jethro Bickell and Susan (Bone) Bickell.

In 1901 Elizabeth Bickell (age 22) lived at St Johns Road in Plymouth with her husband Thomas (25, General Labourer) and son Thomas (0).^[6]

In 1939 Elizabeth Bicknell[Bickell] (born in 1878) lived at 4 Albert Terrace in Plymouth with her husband Thomas E (1875), as well as three others: Deborah Veal (1866), Eleanor C Battichill (1878), Gladys M Whear (1901).^[9]

Elizabeth's husband passed away in 1954.

Elizabeth H Bickell passed away in 1959, aged 80 years. Her death was registered in Plymouth in the first quarter of the year.^[10]
