Biography

DESCENDANTSOFBARTHOLOMEWTALIAFERRO MYNOTE:*Theprogenitor of "all" Taillifer[ro] clans was William I (9916-945), Count of Angouleme, France. He adopted the name after miraculously slaying a foe (right through his armor) with one blow of a sword made by smith Wayland. The name means "bearer of sword that cuts iron". ** Lanier family members were French court musicians in the British royal court. Joan Lanier (married Bartholomew Taliaferro) was the widow of John Lanier who died in 1577. Some researchers claim she married James Marc(k)adye because the name of Joan Lanier & her 2 daughters appeared on an inquiry to Marc(k)adyes property. But IGI shows James Markadye marr. Jone Mackworth 13 NOV 1578, St. Mary Somerset, London, Eng. Mark Anthony Galliardello was: 1) father of Frances who married John Lanier (son of Nicholas); 2) Court Musician (viol or violin) in British royal court 1547-85; and 3) witnessed Will of Bartholomew Taliaferro. Bartholomew & Joan Taliaferro, John & Frances Lanier lived on St. Olaves Hart St., London. John Lanyer & Nicholas Lanier arrived in Eng. in 1561. Perhaps they were brothers. John, a musician, came with his wife, Joan, and two children. He was a native of Rouen, France and owned property in Crutched Friars, Parish of St. Olave, Hart Street, London. In conclusion, the evidence points to Joan being the widow of John Lanier.
