Elizabeth Ann Tattersall was born in 1860, at Glenleigh, Blue Mountains, New South Wales.[1] She was the daughter of James Tattersall (1828-1895) and Isabella Watson (1828-1904).
She married Henry Norris Woodley (1861-1944) in 1884 at Waterloo, New South Wales.[2]
WOODLEY—TATTERSALL April 14, at the residence of the bride's parents, by the Rev. J. Gardiner, Henry Norris, youngest son of George Woodley, Esq., squatter, of Newbridge, to Elizabeth Ann, third daughter of Mr. James Tattersall, late of Hill End.[3] |
They had nine children, five daughters and four sons:
In 1887 Henry and Elizabeth Woodley trekked from Blayney to pioneer a property near Wongarbon. The property, 'Mountain View' is still in the Woodley family and three grandsons still farm in the Wongarbon area. At a family reunion in October 1978, 250 Woodley relatives gathered in 'Mountain View' to celebrate their long association with the district. At that time two trees were planted on 'Mountain View' to commemoate Henry and Elizabeth, together with nine others, each representing one of their children.
She died in 1943, at Dubbo, New South Wales.[4] Elizabeth is buried at Old Dubbo Cemetery, Dubbo, New South Wales.[5]
MRS. ELIZABETH WOODLEY
After a lengthy illness Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Woodley died at a Dubbo hospital on Saturday night. Mrs. Woodley was 83 years of age. Born at Glenleigh, on the Blue Mountains, she married Mr. Henry Norris Woodley, who, with his family, survives. Mr. and Mrs. Woodley came to the west 56 years ago, and they helped materially to pioneer this district. They followed farming and grazing pursuits in the Wongarbon and Geurie districts for many years; indeed, it was only in recent years that they left the land, coming to Dubbo to live in retirement. Mrs. Woodley was widely known throughout the district, and respected by all who had met her. Surviving members of the family are Elsie (Mrs. S. J. Fitzell, Condobolin). Horace (Ballimore) , Harold (Geurie), Hilda (Mrs. S. Condon, Wellington), Leslie (Wongarbon), Irene (Mrs. C. J. Mawbey (Coboco), Ruby (Mrs. C. H. Traves, Gunnedah) and Neva (Mrs. McLean, Lithgow). In addition there are 33 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One son Roy predeceased his mother some years ago. A largely attended funeral was held yesterday morning, the cortege moving from the Methodist Church to the Methodist portion of the Dubbo cemetery. The Rev. H. N. Whiteman conducted church and graveside services, and Messrs. Horace, Harold and Leslie Woodley and C. H. Traves (the latter a son-in-law) acted as pallbearers.[6] |
