Solomon Tatum was born in Pendleton District South Carolina on July 27, 1806. His parents were Hugh (1782-1862) and Mary Roe (1786-1856). Sometime after the 1830 census was taken, Solomon married Suzannah Trotter (b.1812), the daughter of Robert and Delilah Hudgins Trotter.

Solomon sold land on the Twelve Mile River in the Pendleton District in December 1832, and moved to Georgia. He settled on Cane Creek (now called Rogers Creek) in 1833. Both Solomon’s and Suzannah’s parents left Sough Carolina at this time. The Trotters went on to Lumpkin County. Solomon owned approximately 570 acres in the 3rd District of Habersham County. In the slave census of 1860, he is listed as have one slave – a 7 year old male.

Solomon and Suzannah were the parents of 15 children. Solomon was active at Nacoochee Baptist Church, serving as church clerk and trustee in 1960’s. He went to many associational meetings as a church representative.

Solomon died March 30, 1882 and Suzannah died October 14, 1890. Both are buried at Nacoochee Baptist Church. Solomon’s estate was settled July 15, 1887 when Gustavus Elder, a grandson-in-law paid each heir $25 for his/her interest in the property.
