Benjamin was born 11 Nov 1759 in Orange County, Virginia, the youngest son of George Taylor and Rachel Gibson. He became a navy midshipman 10 Oct 1777 at the age of 17 and served in the Revolution with his brother Richard aboard Tartar. He never married, [1] received 2,666 acres of land in Kentucky, and removed there after the war. [2] His brother Francis's 1799 will bequeathed the Orange County family home Midland to Benjamin, but Benjamin sold it the following year to Colonel Lewis Willis of Spotsylvania County. [3]
