Biography

1776 Project
Midshipman Benjamin Taylor served with Virginia Navy during the American Revolution.

Benjamin was born 11 Nov 1759 in Orange County, Virginia, the youngest son of George Taylor and Rachel Gibson. He became a navy midshipman 10 Oct 1777 at the age of 17 and served in the Revolution with his brother Richard aboard Tartar. He never married, [1] received 2,666 acres of land in Kentucky, and removed there after the war. [2] His brother Francis's 1799 will bequeathed the Orange County family home Midland to Benjamin, but Benjamin sold it the following year to Colonel Lewis Willis of Spotsylvania County. [3]
