Matilda was born on September 26th, 1833 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and her baptism took place on October 7th, 1833 in St Marys, Port Elizabeth. Matilda's father was Richard Tee and her mother was Sarah Potter. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Richard, John Potter, Frances Ann , Susan Esther, Elizabeth Mary and Sara Margaret Lydia Potter. She is the youngest of the seven children.[1]
On 27 November 1859, Anne Dodd, the daughter of John and Matilda HAYWARD, was baptised in St. Paul's Church. In the register it is stated that the father of the child is deceased. Anne was born on 19 August 1859.[1]
The burial of John HAYWARD, aged 38, on 27 November 1859, is recorded in the registers of St. Mary's.[1]
Matilda was the youngest daughter of Richard TEE and John was the son of Henry and Anne HAYWARD (nee DODD).[1]
For years I have been trying to locate the marriage of Matilda and John which would probably have taken place in 1858/9. They were definitely married because when Matilda HAYWARD married James BRISTER in Trinity Church on 5 July 1860, she is described as a widow.[1]
