Sarah Telford was born in 1868 in Creagh, Drummaul, County Antrim, Ireland. She was the daughter of James Telford and Ellen Hughes.[1]
Sarah Telford of Creagh, Drummaul, County Antrim married James Small from neighbouring Procklis on 4 December 1893 at Frist Ballymena Presbyterian Church, Ballymena, County Antrim.[2] Thomas Telford and Mary Small were the witnesses.
James and Sarah Small had at least ten children: James Small (1895), John Small (1897), Mary Small (1899), Ellen Jane Small (1901), Sarah Agnes Small (1903), Robina T Small (b. 1905), Samuel Small (b. 1908), Ethel Charlotte Small (b. 1910), twin Ida Florence Small (b. 1910) and Nathaniel Small (b. 1914).
In the 1901 Ireland census, Sarah Small was age 30, living at Procklis, Drummaul, County Antrim with her husband James Small (37), a farmer, and children James Small (6), John Small (4), Mary Small (3) and baby Ellen Jane Small. Also Alexander Power (20), farm servant.[3]
In the 1911 Ireland census, Sarah Small was age 39, living at Procklis, Drummaul, County Antrim with her husband James Small (46), a farmer, and children James Small (16), John Small (14), Mary Small (12), Ellen Jane Small (10), Sarah Agnes Small (7), Robina T Small (5), Samuel Small (2) and twins Ethel Charlotte Small and Ida Florence Small (9 months).[4].
Sarah Small died in 1915 age 47, not long after her last child Nathaniel was born, at Procklis, Drummaul, County Antrim.[5] She was buried in the graveyard at First Ahoghill Presbyterian Church, Ahoghill, County Antrim. The grave headstone says:
Erected by James Small, Prockless, in loving memory of his wife Sarah Small who died 4th Novr 1915 aged 47 years Also the above named James Small who died 16th Feby 1951 And their daughter Robena T Small who died 24th July 1983[6]
