James Templar was born about August 1850, the son of James Templar and Ann Payne. HIs birth was registered in the Axbridge district, Somerset, during the September quarter. [1][2]
Baptism. James was baptised on 11th August 1850 at Winscombe, Somerset. [3]
At the time of the 1851 census, taken on 30th March, the Templar family lived at Winscombe, Somerset, England. James was recorded as 7 months old, the son of James and Ann Templar. His father was an Agricultural Labourer, aged 24, born locally, as was James junior. His mother was also 24 years old, and shown as born in Compton Bishop. There were two older brothers at home on census night: John, a scholar, aged 5, born Axbridge; and George, aged 2. [4]
Emigration to Australia. The Templar family arrived in the Colony of Victoria in August 1852 per the ship "Priam" when James was a year old. [5]
Mr. Jas. Templar an old resident of Glenorchy, died in the Stawell Hospital on Tuesday. His remains were interred in the Glenorchy Cemetery. A large number followed the cortege. Rev. Sch... officiated at the grave. [9]
