Biography

Origin

James was born on 20 March 1765 in Straitstone Creek, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, the son of James Templeton and Mary McKie (without evidence, source is U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 by Yates Publishing).[citation needed]

Marriages

James married twice.

  • James married on 21 December 1787 at at Botetourt County, Virginia to Lucy Billups, daughter of Edward Billups and Sarah Casey.[1] Lucy died on 18 June 1832 at Lawrence County, Ohio.[citation needed]
  • James married on 29 March 1835 at Cabell County, Virginia, as his 2nd wife, Ann Frazier[2].

Death and Legacy

James Templeton's will was written on 24 September 1859.[3]and proved in Cabell County, West Virginia on 16 August 1865. In his will he names his wife Ann, and his children: Thomas, William, John, Isaac, Edward, Sarah Winner, Martha Scott, Lucy Miller and Elizabeth McCrea. [4] He died on 18 Jun 1863 at Milton, Cabell County, Virginia.[citation needed]

Census Information

In 1830, James was living at Pittsylvania County, Virginia[5] His family was living nest door to the family of his brother, Martin Templeton.

In 1850, James Templeton, age 85, was living at District 10, Cabell County, Virginia, USA. Also in the household were Ann Templeton age 55, and Adaline Templeton age 23.[6]

In 1860, James age 96, was living at Cabell County, Virginia with Anna Templeton age 65.[7]

DNA
