Susan was born about 1858. The 1865 NY State Census states she was born in Erie County, NY[1] but the 1880 US Census gives her birthplace as Michigan.[2] She was the daughter of John Terrell and Sarah Biddlecom. The 1870 US Census gives her name as Waltina. It is assumed Waltina is her middle name and it was given to her in memory of her brother Walter who passed away at about age 10, shortly before Susan was born.
