Biography

Sarah, or possibly Ann, was born in 1776 in Virginia. Her parents appear to have been Timothy Terrill and Sarah Robertson. Her father died in 1781, "killed by Indians" in defense of the Cumberland Settlements in what is became Davidson County, North Carolina in 1783.[1] Her widowed mother reportedly remarried about 1783.

She married William Reeves about 1790, possibly in Grayson County, Virginia. After they were married, they appear to have moved to Ashe County, North Carolina. All of their children were born in Ashe County, North Carolina. They reportedly had the following children:

  1. Sylvia Reeves
  2. Hannah Reeves
  3. John Reeves
  4. Obedience Reeves
  5. Jennie Reeves
  6. Susannah Reeves
  7. Ann Reeves
  8. Terrell Reeves
  9. Lenoir "Noah" Reeves
  10. William H Reeves
  11. Albert Reeves
  12. Gaston Reeves
  13. Hetty Reeves
  14. Timothy Reeves

An 1800 census record for William Reeves likely represents Sarah, with her husband, living in Morgan, Ashe, North Carolina. Their household included William (free white male 26-44), Sarah (free white female 16-25), and four children: one son and three daughters under age 10. The household also included three enslaved persons.[2]

Sarah and William remained in Ashe County, North Carolina until after 1821 (birth of youngest son). William was reported in Ashe County in the 1810 (10 children ages 15 and under) and 1820 (8 children, including 5 under age 10) census records.[3][4]

Before 1830, Sarah and William had removed to Indiana, and in the 1830 census, William was reported in Greene, Indiana. Their household included five of their children including one son under age 10.[5] Three of their three oldest sons (John, Terrell, Noah, and William Reeves) were also living in Greene County, Indiana.

Before 1840, Sarah and William had moved to Arkansas, and in the 1840 census, William (free white male age 70-80), with what is likely his wife Sarah Ann (free white female age 60-70), was in Van Buren, Conway, Arkansas. Two of their sons, John Reeves and Terrell Reeves were reported as heads of household in adjacent residences.[6]

She died before 1850, most likely in Arkansas. There are two Find A Grave memorials that have been associated with Sarah Ann (Terrell) Reeves. One memorial describes Sarah Ann as buried, along with her husband William Reeves, in William Reeves Family Cemetery, Pleasant Ridge, Carroll County, Arkansas, United States.[7] The second memorial describes Sarah Terrell (born 1779) as buried Lt George Reeves Cemetery, Grayson County, Virginia, USA.[8]
