Samuel Terry was born on July 18, 1661 in Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents were Samuel Terry. who had immigrated from England, and Ann (Lobdell) Terry. He was part of a group of Springfield residents who moved to Enfield, Massachusetts, later to become part of Connecticut. [1] See Enfield History.
He married first Hannah Morgan and second Martha Boardman Crane. Four children of Hannah and five children of Martha survived infancy. [2]
In 1691 "Benjamin Parsons, Samuel Terry, and Isaac Morgan received a grant for a sawmill at Sawmill Brook (Terry Brook) at a site which was later used by Gowdy distillery." [1]
"Capt. Samuel Terry 3rd Captain of the Militia of Enfield & one of the first representatives to the Gen. Court at Boston, often sustaining various Town offices, he died 1730 aged 70, he left 7 sons, all but one settled in Enfield." [3]
Captain Samuel Terry died January the second day anno domini 1730 aged about 67 years.[4]
