Biography
Thomas Tesdale is believed to be one of three sons of another Thomas Tesdale; his brothers being Richard Tesdale and John Tesdale. [1] His father Thomas was placed in the parsonage at Hanney, Berkshire and his mother was Elizabeth Sharpe.
Thomas married thrice. His first marriage was to Cecilia Hyde of Culham. They had six children but sadly, in 1545 Cecilia and five of their six children succumbed to plague. [2] Their only surviving child was Elizabeth.
His second marriage was to Joan, daughter of William Knapp of Harcourt, Berkshire. She was the mother of his son Thomas. [2]
His third marriage, which took place in about 1548, was to Agnes, the widow of Thomas Bennet. Thomas's will seems to suggest that Agnes was the mother of his "young son John" and she was to have the care of him. [2] The Tesdale pedigree suggests that she may have been Agnes (Ann) Molins before her marriage to Thomas Bennet.
Thomas had his will drawn up on 31 Oct 1556 describing himself as being of the parish of Abingdon in the county of Berkshire. He made bequests to and mentioned:
- my son Thomas
- my daughter Elizabeth Bennett
- Richard Tisdale and William Hopkins to have the custody of my son Thomas
- my brother John Tisdale
- my sister Elizabeth Tringe (?)
- Thomas Bennett
- Margaret Bennett
- Agnes, Rafe and Richard Bennett
- my brother Richard Tisdale
- my wife Agnes, to have the care of
- my young son John
Thomas Tesdale died in Abingdon, Berkshire in 1556. [3] His will was probated on 29 Jan 1557. [4]
